Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your GippsHost account. Once enabled, signing in requires both your password and a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone.
This guide walks you through enabling 2FA on your GippsHost client portal account.
Before you start: Install an authenticator app on your phone. We recommend Google Authenticator (iPhone / Android) or Duo Mobile. Both are free.
Step 1: Open Security Settings
Log in to the GippsHost client area, click Hello, [Your Name]! in the top right, and select Security Settings.
You'll see Two-Factor Authentication is currently Disabled. Click Click here to Enable.
Step 2: Choose Time Based Tokens
Select Time Based Tokens and click Get Started.
Step 3: Scan the QR Code
Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code on screen. Your app will add a new entry for GippsHost and start generating 6-digit codes that change every 30 seconds.
Can't scan the QR code? Tap your app's manual entry option and type in the code shown above the QR (e.g. NO3TF7JZIALRBXTI).
Step 4: Enter the 6-Digit Code
Type the current 6-digit code from your authenticator app into the field, then click Submit.
Step 5: Save Your Backup Code
2FA is now enabled, and you'll be shown a Backup Code. This is a one-time code that lets you back into your account if you lose access to your authenticator app (lost phone, factory reset, etc.).
Important: Save this code somewhere safe right now. We recommend storing it in a password manager (1Password, Bitwarden, Apple Passwords, etc.) alongside your GippsHost login. Treat it the same as your password — anyone with this code can bypass 2FA on your account.
Once you've saved the backup code, click Close. You're done — next time you log in, you'll be prompted for your 6-digit code after entering your password.
Lost Your Authenticator App?
If you lose access to your authenticator app, use your saved backup code on the 2FA login prompt. This will log you in and disable 2FA on your account, so you can set it up again with a new device.
If you've lost both your authenticator app and your backup code, contact us on 1300 881 437 or support@gippshost.com.au and we'll verify your identity and reset 2FA on your account manually.
Disabling 2FA
If you ever need to turn 2FA off, head back to Security Settings and click Click here to Disable. You'll need to enter your password to confirm.
