The ZTE H268A was handed out by Exetel for years. If you've switched to GippsHost and want to keep using it, you can — but it needs a bit of manual setup first. Exetel loaded the modem with settings that don't work on our network, and a factory reset alone won't clear them properly.
This guide walks you through the full process. It takes about 10 minutes.
What you'll need
- Your ZTE H268A modem, plugged in and powered on
- A computer, laptop, tablet, or phone
- About 10 minutes
Step 1: Connect to the modem
First, plug the modem into your nbn® connection. The port you use depends on what type of connection you have:
- FTTP, FTTC, HFC, or Fixed Wireless: You have a separate nbn® box on the wall. Use an Ethernet cable to plug the modem's red
WANport into your nbn® box (use the port we told you to use in your welcome email). - FTTN or FTTB: You don't have a separate nbn® box. Use a phone cable to plug the modem's grey
DSLport straight into your phone wall socket.
Not sure which type of connection you have? Check your GippsHost welcome email — it's listed there.
Then connect your device to the modem in one of two ways:
- By Wi-Fi: Look at the sticker on the bottom of the modem for the Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password, then connect to it like you would any other Wi-Fi network
- By cable: Plug an Ethernet cable from your computer into any of the yellow
LANports on the back of the modem
Reset button on the back with a paperclip for 10 seconds). After a factory reset, the Wi-Fi name and password go back to what's on the sticker.Step 2: Log in to the modem
- Open a web browser and go to
http://192.168.20.1 - Log in with:
- Username:
admin - Password:
Haikui_V2
- Username:
- If that password doesn't work, try
Admin@123
Step 3: Stop the modem calling Exetel
The modem is set to check in with Exetel for its settings. We need to turn that off, or it will undo everything you're about to change.
- Click Management & Diagnosis in the top menu
- Click TR-069 on the left
- Switch TR-069 Enable to
Off - Click Apply
Step 4: Remove the old Exetel connection
- Click Internet in the top menu
- Click WAN on the left
- Delete any existing connections in the list (usually one called
INTERNETand maybe one forVoIP)
Step 5: Add your GippsHost connection
- Still on the WAN page, click Create New Item
- Choose the connection type that matches your service:
- FTTP, FTTC, HFC, or Fixed Wireless: Select Ethernet
- FTTN or FTTB: Select DSL
- Enter the settings below. Leave anything not listed at its default value.
| Setting | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Connection Name | GippsHost |
| DSL Transfer Mode (FTTN/FTTB only) | PTM |
| Type | Routing |
| Service List | INTERNET |
| Link Type | IP |
| IP Type | DHCP |
| IP Version | IPv4 + IPv6 |
| NAT | On |
| VLAN | Off |
| MTU | 1500 |
- Click Apply
- Restart the modem: go to Management & Diagnosis → System Management → Reboot
Step 6: Check it's working
- Wait a couple of minutes for the modem to restart
- Go to Internet → Status
- You should see a public IP address next to your GippsHost connection, and the status should say
Connected - Try loading a website on your computer to confirm you're online
Something not working?
I can't get online
If you've just switched from another router, your connection can take up to 30 minutes to recognise the new modem. Leave everything plugged in and powered on — it should come good on its own. If it's still not working after half an hour, get in touch with us.
The settings keep changing back
This means the modem is still talking to Exetel. Go back to Step 3 and make sure TR-069 is turned off.
I can't log in to the modem
Try both Haikui_V2 and Admin@123 as the password. If neither works, hold the small Reset button on the back of the modem with a paperclip for 10 seconds. The modem will restart with factory defaults, and you can log in with admin / admin. Note that you'll need to follow all the steps above again after a factory reset.
Still stuck?
If you've followed the steps and you're still having trouble, contact GippsHost support. Let us know your service number and what's happening, and we'll help sort it out.
